Another one of my favorite projects that I have accomplished, my Kinetic Type Project.
What is Kinetic Type?
Kinetic Type, or otherwise known as “moving text”, is a style of animation using mainly text expressing what the audio is saying.
The Project
The main objective for this project was to gather a sampling of audio, and creating a Kinetic Type style animation to it. For my audio, I choose a small sampling from one of my favorite shows, The Office. I somehow automatically knew what episode and part I wanted to animate, it was the episode where Micheal Scoot burns his foot. I thought this would be a fun challenge simply because of the emotions in his voice as he explains what happens. I thought that this would be not only comical, but also a good challenge.
Storyboard
The storyboard for this wasn’t your usual break down with “fx” and the exact script on the side of the main illustration. The storyboard acted as a layout for each breakdown of the scene and how I wanted to execute it in the animation. Since Micheal and Jim were the only two characters speaking in the scene, I wanted to color coordinate the animation to accommodate each character. I decided I wanted to use blues so for Micheal I did more of a turquoise and for Jim a Navy Blue. Also, I knew that the animation had to be on a white background, so I needed an accent color that would stand out more than the turquoise. So I thought a deep beige would do well in delivering that toned look.
Animating
Using the Sure Target plug in, I was able to get the camera transitions that I needed in order to complete the animation. The Sure Target plug in was able to pin down and move to a different location in the animation making fluid movements. I had a lot of fun placing everything and recreating what I had made in my storyboard.
