Diorama

The Project

For this project, I had to create a Diorama inspired animation. To accomplish this, I had to use After Effects to assemble the animation together.

The Storyboard

For this project, I had to create a Diorama inspired animation. To accomplish this, I first had to come up with a story.

My story for this had to be no longer than 15 seconds, which isn’t a lot of time so I had to make sure that the information and the stage was all right there from the start.

For the story, I wanted it to be in the mountains and zoom in on a cave. In the cave I wanted it to seem like there is a big monster who turns out to be a puppy and throws up a sign saying “Do Not Disturb”.

Gathering the Assets

After I had the storyboard solidified, I went ahead and created the assets I needed in order to complete the animation.

I wanted the animation to have a storybook feel to it, so I went ahead and painted out the mountains and other little embellishments to achieve this look.

After I finished, I then scanned them onto the computer. Then in Photoshop I masked them out of the white and also touched up the gaps that the paint didn’t fill in.

Once this process was done I went onto animating the pieces in After Effects.

Animating

Once I had brought in the pieces into After Effects, it time to assemble them accordingly. I had to not only position certain elements in their locations, I had to make sure the camera movements were correct as well. After I had all of the parts animated, I then went on the hunt for the appropriate audio choices. After this was done, I finally was satisfied with my animation.
